In the 1980s, local Ikebana enthusiasts formed an Ikebana study group. Its members were from different counties, including Brevard and Indian River, and were eager students of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. Over the years there have been members from many different Ikebana schools, including the more traditional schools, like Ikenobo and more modern schools such as Sogetsu and Ohara. Members met regularly to enhanclass="container-wrap"ce their Ikebana skills and learn from certified visiting Ikebana teachers and from each other. Following Ikebana principles and techniques, and the shared love of bamboo and our local flora, Ikebana members have created dynamic arrangements over the years. On April 9, Ikebana members utilized their learned Ikebana techniques and created two outdoor landscape bamboo structures in McKee Botanical Garden for visitors to enjoy while they stroll the Garden. It is an amazing opportunity to showcase how Ikebana can be done anywhere, anytime, with anything, by anyone. These displays will be on display for a week or so. Membership is available on an individual basis through Ikebana International: https://ikebanahq.org/
