Volunteer

This position is for individuals who enjoy meeting the public and requires a commitment for taking visitors through the Garden at prearranged times throughout the week. Guide must be familiar with the Garden history, horticulture and successfully complete our Garden Guide Training course with annual refresher courses.

Must be available 40 hours/year.

One day Garden Guide training course required. Plus 4 additional hours of continuing education training required annually.

Garden uniform required (McKee Shirt, Tan Pants or Skirts. No Shorts or Tank Tops). Comfortable shoes suggested and name tag must be worn at all times.

Individuals in this position must enjoy meeting and speaking with the public. Duties include but are not limited to: greeting guests, answering visitor questions and giving directions.

Volunteers in the gift shop sell merchandise, inventory stock, price/display items and promote McKee Memberships and assist Admissions Clerk.

Minimum of a 4 hour time commitment per week. Hours are usually morning or afternoon shifts. Some evening shifts for special events.

Willingness to perform a variety of tasks, interact with the public and answer questions.

General orientation and specialized training is also required.

Grounds volunteers get to help take care of the Garden and the plants in it. Most work is in the Garden, Greenhouse or Nursery. Tasks include watering, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, potting, clearing, planting and algae control.

Work shifts are 9:00am to 12 Noon Monday through Friday.

Willingness to work in outdoor setting, ability to take directions and share garden knowledge, and good observation skills.

Outdoors, can be hot, dirty work. Volunteers are asked to bring their own pruners, water bottle, gloves, hat and sun block.

Clothing appropriate to working conditions. Sturdy shoes, gloves, hat and sun block as needed may be provided by the volunteer.

Assist with upkeep and maintenance of buildings and site.
