Children’s Garden

KIDS!!! Play Outside!

They thrive when they can play freely surrounded by nature, sparking their imaginations and creating memories that will last lifetimes. Maybe they become pirates on a treasure ship, explorers searching for new lands, fairies fluttering happily through the forest, detectives searching for clues to mysteries of their own making… whatever they can dream, they can become…but many don’t have a safe outdoor place to go to make those memories.

The Children’s Garden at McKee will be that special outdoor place when it opens in 2019.

When the vines are pulled back to this new world of wonder, the hundreds of children who visit McKee Botanical Garden each year will have their own special place in which to write their own stories at their own pace and in their own ways.

Free of the technology and “screens” that take up so much of their playtime…

As our children become more deeply immersed in technology and virtual interaction takes the place of direct social interaction, the Children’s Garden at McKee will be a much-needed, screen-limited alternative when it is completed in 2019.

The site on which the new Children’s Garden at McKee is set has been awaiting this opportunity for over 20 years when the first campaign was launched to acquire and restore the 18-acre property. As a natural complement to McKee’s existing landscape and a resource much needed in the community, the Children’s Garden at McKee will provide not only an engaging place for children and their families, but will support an expanded education program to encourage young visitors to fall in love with nature as its future stewards.

Please join us on this exciting journey by becoming a donor to the campaign for the Children’s Garden at McKee. Help us nurture the powerful bond between children and nature. In doing so, you will become part of a legacy that will touch the lives of
countless generations, providing a fun and whimsical play space that will inspire
imagination and curiosity in children through interaction, education and exploration,
nurturing a powerful bond with nature.

Meet Emmanuel Didier, Designer of the Children’s Garden

“Our landscapes promote resilient environments that foster health, well-being, and ecological diversity for future generations.”

– Emmanuel Didier

“If we want our children to flourish, to become truly empowered,
then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it.”

– David Sobel

“Children have a natural affinity towards nature. Dirt, water, plants,
and small animals attract and hold children’s attention for hours, days,
even a lifetime.”

– Robin C. Moore
