Diseases & Pests of Orchids: Diagnosis, Prevention and Treatment. In this class you will learn not only about common pests and diseases on orchids but also how to tell the difference between symptoms caused by pests vs. those caused by disease, virus, or fungus. Plant Pathologist Dr. Gazis and Entomologist Dr. Mannion from the University of Florida/IFAS Tropical Research Education Center will teach you how to identify and manage insects and other pests and diseases that commonly afflict orchids. Treatment and best management practices will also be discussed. This is not a cultivation class and growing orchids will not be covered except as it relates to pest and disease management.
Dr. Romina Gazis
University of Florida Assistant Professor – Plant Pathology- Director, Plant Diagnostic Clinic
Dr. Gazis is a plant pathologist with extensive experience in fungal biology and an increasing interest in tropical plant diseases caused by other groups of plant pathogens.
Dr. Catherine Mannion
University of Florida Professor – Ornamental Entomology
Dr. Mannion works on insect and other pest problems of ornamental plants, trees, shrubs and palms grown in the landscape and in production.
