Local Businesses Lend Helping Hand
July 16, 2007
During the hot summer months, who doesn't need some shade? Well, McKee Botanical Garden was provided with just that on July 16 as part of Industry Day. Local businesses came together collaboratively to contribute both plant materials and labor to the historic garden.
All told, 54 Live Oak, Red Maple, Monkey Hand, Podocarpus and Laurel Oak trees were donated to restore the canopy that had been destroyed in Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne. The new canopy, with trees towering between 7 and 22 feet, will provide much-needed shade and plant cover to the garden.
The volunteer businesses who made Industry Day possible include: Aiello Landscape, Hayslip Landscape, Florida Native Landscape, Distinctive Landscape Management, Jones-Turner Landscape Management, Island Arbor, Becker Tree Farm, Horizon Nursery and Old Florida Bonsai.
McKee Botanical Garden is located at 350 U.S. Highway 1, Vero Beach. The Garden is open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon - 5 p.m. Sunday. Closed on Mondays and major holidays. For more information, call the McKee Botanical Garden office at (772) 794-0601 or visit www.mckeegarden.org.
